Bush Job Approval

Latest poll shows fifty-six percent of Americans approve

GALLUP NEWS SERVICE

PRINCETON, NJ -- A new Gallup poll shows 56% of Americans approve of the job George W. Bush is doing as president, while 31% disapprove and 13% have no opinion. The May 10-14 poll results are similar to those of last week, when Bush's approval rating was at 53%. However, it is down from late April -- Bush had a 62% approval rating following the release of 24 Americans in the China spy plane incident. Throughout his still-young term, Bush's average approval rating is 58%, and has ranged between 53% and 63%, with his high point of 63% in a March 5-7 poll.

Survey Methods

The results below are based on telephone interviews with a randomly selected national sample of 1,012 adults, 18 years and older, conducted May 10-14, 2001. For results based on this sample, one can say with 95 percent confidence that the maximum error attributable to sampling and other random effects is plus or minus 3 percentage points. In addition to sampling error, question wording and practical difficulties in conducting surveys can introduce error or bias into the findings of public opinion polls.
