PRINCETON, NJ -- For the second consecutive year, Americans have selected Julia Roberts as their Favorite Motion Picture Actress in the 27th annual People's Choice Awards, presented last night (1/7) in Los Angeles. Mel Gibson took top honors as Favorite Motion Picture Actor among Americans over the age of 12, and was also honored as the public's Favorite Star in a Dramatic Motion Picture for his role in "The Patriot."
Other repeat winners include "Friends" as the public's Favorite TV Comedy Series, "ER" as the Favorite TV Drama Series, and Drew Carey as Favorite Male TV Performer for his role on "The Drew Carey Show."
The Gallup Organization conducts the annual survey of Americans for the People's Choice Awards. Unlike many other Hollywood awards determined by entertainment writers or those involved in the entertainment industry, the winners of the People's Choice Awards were selected directly in telephone polls conducted by Gallup during November and December 2000.
