Verbatim Responses: What 1,003 Americans Would Say to President Bush

Verbatim Responses: What 1,003 Americans Would Say to President Bush

Gallup's April 18-21, 2005 national survey of 1,003 randomly selected Americans included this simple question: "If you could talk with President George W. Bush for fifteen minutes and give him advice about anything that's on your mind, what would you tell him?"

First of all we better do something with our judicial system. Judges are out of control, eliminate the filibusters. Foreign stuff he's doing okay, the economy doesn't look real hot. I'd like him to do stuff with energy, gas prices are affecting us all. Male, age 63

Pull out of Iraq!. Female, age 29

Talk about the wages and jobs of America. Close our borders to immigrants. Female, age 35

Drop the gas prices. Don't take away from education. Female, age 70

Welfare of baby boomers as they get into later years, heath insurance, prescriptions, housing and other special needs. Female, age 51

Don't agree about being there in the war. Male, age 68

Get out of office. Female, age 78

Get rid of NASA because it's kind of (swear word) up our jobs around here. Male, age 39

Economy is horrible and I disagree with the war in Iraq, take care of our own first. Female, age 24

To do something about all of the jobs overseas. Male, age 60

Lottery intake supposed to go to education and it isn't. Where is it going? Female, age 70

Keep up the good work. We're praying for you. God bless you--don't listen to all the left wing extremists. Female, age 41

He needs to take care of health care. Female, age 55

The war with Iraq, I disapprove of that. Male, age 60

To support the older people because they are the only ones that are going to be working. Young kids got no work ethic whatsoever. To help with prescriptions. To make sure that the older people have food to eat instead of cat food. Female, age 56

Bring fuel prices down. Female, age 71

Be careful with everything overseas. Male, age 55

Leave that Social Security alone. Male, age 56

Don't mess with Social Security. Male, age 79

Social Security. Taxes. The influx of aliens. Female, age 75

How he's so fixed in his ideas and thoughts, he might bend a little bit and listen, he might be too sure of himself. Male, age 67

I would tell him not to send all our money overseas and keep it here and I think we're spending way too much money over there and not enough here. Part of our military police force, we almost need to go back to isolated nation way back before World War I, take care of home first before we go anywhere else. Male, age 45

Social Security, he needs to leave it alone and like it is, also the economy is not very good. He needs to do something about these high gas prices. Female, age 61

Try to do something about the price of oil which he probably has little to do with. Try to do something about runaway inflation. Don't let our jobs go to other countries. Male, age 61

I'd probably tell him he's doing a pretty good job, just hang in there and get the oil prices down. Male, age 77

More of our tax dollars should go to education and to the care of low income children.  No child should ever go hungry! Each child is entitled to a good education!  I would like to see that level of education extend to four years of college for each child! Female, age 57

Pull the troops out for sure. Male, age 29

The economy. Male, age 36

Concentrate on the Americans at home instead of across the world. Female, age 64

I think I wouldn't have much advice, I think he is doing a good job. Male, age 72

Not to mess with Social Security. Male, age 71

I think he should give more thought to the Social Security plan, he should listen to the people. Female, age 89

Do something with the gas prices. Male, age 30

Affordable housing. Male, age 42

Get something going with the Social Security or the health, put that the plug back in Terri Schiavo and let her live, ordered a doctor to put it back in, find bin Laden. Female, age 51

Clean up our backyard before going overseas. Gas prices too high. Prescriptions are too high. Male, age 67

I would say be honest with people. Female, age 55

Help the senior citizens. Female, age 67

I wish he would probably pay more attention to people in the middle and lower middle classes, he tends to favor the rich. Male, age 33

Close the borders and beef up the national defense. Male, age 35

I would thank him for the war effort and the success we've had in Iraq. I'd take up issue with the way he is handling immigration. I would like to see people being able to invest their own money as far as Social Security goes. Male, age 44

We need more people to help other people in day programs. Female, age 45

I don't know. Female, age 26

The issues with security of the country, Social Security. Medical treatments for those that couldn't afford it. Female, age 62

Put more worry about the people in the U.S. instead of giving money to the other countries, we need it here. Male, age 32

Tell him to get gas prices down. Male, age 72

The war in Iraq. Female

Get the troops out of Iraq. Stop messing with Social Security. Male, age 38

I would tell him to change his foreign policy and to allocate more money to social programs and schools. Male, age 22

Get out of Iraq while he can save face for our nation. Male, age 59

Don't try and wreck Social Security. You can tweak it but you can change it too much. Female, age 77

If he spent the same amount on doing good in the poor countries by giving purifying water systems and better education and helping hospitals as he spends on the war then the terrorists would take care of themselves. Female, age 75

To keep doing what he is doing in Iraq. To focus on homeland security. Female, age 58

More money for education. Male, age 57

I wish he wouldn't continue the war in Iraq. It's not necessary. Female, age 73

Social Security and the war. Female, age 32

Fault for starting the war. Male, age 89

That we ought to handle Iraq differently and he should stay out of things like Terri Schiavo. Female, age 49

Keep pushing for the Social Security program. Female, age 48

Foreign policy and domestic policy. Female, age 44

Income taxes are way out of line, so many taxes don't get collected from people who cheat. Now is the time to do away with income taxes, go to a national sales tax. Ask him to go forward with his Social Security proposal, not a crisis right now, will be in next 10 years. Frivolous lawsuits that are way out of line, we need to get his judges he wants to confirm, need to get an up or down vote on his nominees. Male, age 49

Please help the mentally handicapped and the people on Social Security, give them a better life, make it easier for us to get our medications and better health care, that is for all people on Social Security, mentally and handicapped, and the seniors, and help the homeless. Male, age 42

Strengthening our borders. Female, age 45

Leave Social Security alone. Female, age 79

The war in Iraq. Male, age 27

Social Security and the next war, get more countries to help him. Male, age 57

I do not like the way they did the Terri Schiavo thing. Female, age 70

Stop the war. Female, age 24

I am not happy with what he is doing with my Social Security. Female, age 83

I would talk to him about the Middle East and that would probably take the fifteen minutes. Male, age 37

There's so many different things that need to be fixed, do something about employment to let them stay here. Social Security doesn't work. Male, age 74

Close the border. Male, age 64

Why did you run again? Male, age 31

Make people who do their jobs in government accountable. Pay less money to government jobs. Male, age 34

Turn to the U.S. and deal with what's here, stop trying to bully the smaller countries. Give Africa some jobs, you see made in Taiwan, made in Japan, give some of these smaller countries some work. Male, age 36

Border situation. Male, age 59

Gas prices too high. Male, age 37

Ask about the stock market. Male, age 75

I would urge him to double his efforts to reform Social Security including personal accounts. I would include praise for the liberation of Afghanistan and Iraq and the democracy movement inspired by that. Male, age 54

He better straighten up the medical situation and he better dot it fast. Female, age 74

About gay marriages and Social Security. Female, age 42

Not to change the Social Security system. Male, age 55

Like to have the economy a little better. Male, age 77

Figure out how we can get our soldiers out of Iraq. Work on throwing at the Tsunami and borrow money for our own countries. Male, age 36

I think world policies are a little more important than he makes it, making us isolated, that the globe, the whole world not just countries or our country is important, it doesn't matter what information he gets, he has already made his decision, he is looking. Female, age 46

Keep up the good work, keep Christ in the center of things and things will be good. Female, age 64

Concentrate more on the working people. Way too many homeless people, got to be something that can be done. Male, age 43

Not necessary to go to Middle East and blow up peoples homes like civilians. Homeless rate the U.S. is far too high for us to spend on WMD. Education here in the U.S. is so far behind other countries and this should be a governmental issue not just state to state. Female, age 22

Keep doing his job. Female, age 44

I'd say that I'm disappointed that he hasn't been indicted for war crimes. Male, age 56

I think we would do lots better if we would end the war. We are too far in debt and are chasing too many problems.  I think he deals with people who are not religious as second class citizens. Male, age 65

American people aren't stupid and stop talking to us like we are. Female, age 70

Keep the border people out, Mexicans. Female, age 89

He needs to take the borders into consideration more and less bickering with in the government and national security. Male, age 45

I would want to point out inconsistencies in what he says and does. Female, age 59

Bring our boys home. Female, age 69

My opinions of course of how I feel about what he is doing about the war. Male, age 45

Ask him how long the war is going to last. Female, age 22

To get rid of the illegal aliens. Female, age 58

That they get out of Iraq. Male, age 62

War in Iraq. Mishandling of energy corporation. No emphasis on environmental conservation. Male, age 57

Issues in Iraq and Social Security. Female, age 30

Probably talk about education. Protecting women's rights. Female, age 32

Whatever it takes to get this Iraq deal over with, he was concerned for American people, feel he's doing a good job, 110 percent, I know what it takes. I'm ex military. Germans and French could go to (swear word). Male, age 72

Leave Social Security alone. Bring our boys back from Iraq. Male, age 70

Get us out of the war! Female, age 43

Why isn't the Mexican border shut down and why isn't the illegals deported. Why is bin Laden living in this country? Male, age 73

Social Security and health issues for us retirees and the generation behind us. When people come in from Cuba and get Social Security and then we don't get our fair share. The war is like another Vietnam war. Female, age 58

He doing a (swear word) of a good job and keep fighting those democrats. Male, age 78

Get his autograph. Regarding the wmd; feel lied to; what did he really know?  Saddam might have been bad to his own people; but don't feel that was enough or worth going to war over; was not worth one American life; would like all troops home as soon as possible, not some four-year exit strategy; home by Thanksgiving at least. Male, age 25

To keep on with the fight on terrorism. Male, age 65

Stop the war. Female, age 34

Issues of border security. Male, age 31

Talk about oil prices. Female, age 34

Price of fuel. Iraq. Male, age 39

Immigration is a significant issue, North Korea, and Iran. Male, age 65

He needs to leave Social Security alone, because that's how I live. Female, age 68

When will we get out of Iraq? Female, age 38

Do something about the high price of gas. Male, age 51

He's doing a great job and how he's trying to get one house undivided. Male, age 46

I'd probably go to jail for the rest of my life. Female, age 77

Social Security. Male, age 40

Tell him to let troops back to America, blow up them up and make gas cheap, give money to homeless instead to other countries. Male, age 40

He needs to do something about the homelessness. He needs to do something about rent control. He needs to bring the prices of homes in this country down to a level where people can afford them again -- can afford the American dream. Female, age 56

Too much hand-holding of the Iraqis and the Middle East. Our war in Iraq is not supported by me. Our disbursements of money in America are unequal; the 2% of Americans have too much of the money. Male, age 49

Make sure veterans have good benefits. Continue to be concerned with pro-life issues. Try to preserve Social Security and tax incentives for small business. Female, age 49

He is doing a good job and hopes he gets the Social Security bill. Bring soldiers home. Female, age 78

We need to do a little bit better job for healthcare for middle class and education. Female, age 43

First of all, I'm very opposed to the Iraq war; I don't know why we entered a sovereign nation and have no plans for retreat. I am concerned with the inflation and job loss in this country. The inequality of a balance of trade; we have a deficit, I'm concerned about the debt we are leaving our children. Female, age 73

Social Security. Female, age 57

Social Security reform. Female, age 43

Healthcare for the working poor (swear word). The working poor is a forgotten class.  Female, age 42

First, I would ask that he address the rising fuel prices. I'd ask him to address healthcare costs, would ask him to be more open-minded about other people's opinions and points of view. I would like to see him address the North Korean nuclear situation more. Male, age 25

No reason for gas and diesel to be as high as they are. We don't need to lend money to countries that we know will never pay it back. Male, age 45

Lower the gas prices. Male, age 45

To focus on the future of his country. Stop lying to the American people. Resign. Male, age 39

Try to get the Social Security proposal passed. Female, age 33

Send them boys home from war. Female, age 66

To get out of Iraq. Female, age 50

Get out of Iraq. Male, age 59

I would probably have to talk to him about the welfare system. Female, age 36

To stop working so hard to change Social Security. Female, age 93

I'd talk about Iraq and how things are going there. Male, age 48

I would tell him that economic issues have me ruffled with him on war against terrorism. Male, age 26

Social Security. Male, age 37

I would tell him that I think he's doing a good job, that I think he should keep up the good work, probably that the Social Security things won't work out for him and I agree that he should bring the troops home. I believe he's a person of integrity; he's shown us that you can be successful. Female, age 55

Get oil from a place other than a place that hates us. Male, age 29

Money issue 96. Female, age 33

Get the (swear word) out of Iraq. Male, age 51

I would talk to him about the insurance and the Social Security. Female, age 56

Try to get things back on the moral track. Male, age 43

Get out of Iraq. Male, age 35

I would tell him that he needs to stop pandering to corporate interests and his oil buddies. I really do believe he is generating another Vietnam War and we really do need to get our kids the (swear word) out of there. How many times his mother had to slap that smirk off his face.Female, age 42

They should bring boys home from Iraq. Female, age 76

To get our troops out of Iraq. Female, age 19

Immigration -- illegal. Do something about leaky borders. Male, age 36

Needs to develop different strategy for Iraq. Work on reducing the deficit even if it means raising taxes. Different environmental strategy. Male, age 58

Stop the illegal immigrants. Female, age 75

Tell him to pray to god, and try to do the best he can. Female, age 42

Leave Social Security alone. Male, age 62

Leave Social Security and retirement alone. I approve of Iraq. Male, age 39

Encourage him, give wisdom, disagree with the borders, tell him to be strong in his authority, not to be influenced by media, and need more judges who enforce written laws, instead of trying to make laws, mainly stay firm. Female, age 78

Economic issues. Male, age 50

Social Security: I don't like the way he is going about working with it. Leave it alone! I don't like what you are doing in Iraq. It is a big mistake. It is a shame that our soldiers are getting killed and millions of our dollars are going over there to rebuild Iraq instead of using it on our poor people in this country.  Female, age 68

He shouldn't have sold us out. That is exactly what he did. Male, age 47

Healthcare would be number one thing, I'd talk to him about trade deficit, Iraq the next thing, ask him to stop scaring the country. Male, age 35

to get us out of Iraq. Male, age 18

Tell him to get the religious people in the media off of people's backs, it's like we are reverting to the 1950s. Male, age 24

More about the immigration, about the illegals coming over more. I have no prejudice against any race whatsoever, but it has gotten out of hand. Female, age 78

To drop the Social Security plan. Female, age 29

Increase the cost of living. Increase jobs and wages, increase Medicaid for elderly. Female, age 37

I'd like to see him do a better job on immigration, controlling the border, tightening up security. Male, age 61

Save Social Security, give us a fair-warning scheme about socialization, and get out of Iraq. Female, age 52

Continue doing whatever he has to do to stop terrorism in the country. Female, age 56

Stop the war over there in Iraq and help the people over here that need help. Male, age 61

Get out of Iraq and leave Social Security alone. Female, age 60

Leave Social Security alone and get out of Iraq. Male, age 67

Would tell him about the Social Security. Going to war in Iraq when they didn't have weapons of mass destruction. The economy and jobs. Female, age 65

Job well done. Female, age 61

About medical coverage. Female, age 35

He just signed a new entitlement program into law which was ridiculous. Balance the budget.  Female, age 52

My biggest thing is welfare -- some need it and some abuse it. I think that they should have to pay the system back -- I think a percentage of the payout should be put back in. Female, age 49

Get the troops out of Iraq. Female, age 20

Advise him to resign and give up job to someone more qualified. Male, age 49

Go home and sit down. Female, age 67

Income taxes. Female, age 49

I have no issue that I could cover within 15 minutes with the president. Male, age 62

Leave Social Security alone. Female, age 67

Something about Iraq, finish it and get out. Male, age 24

To stop spending money overseas and put the money into Social Security. Female, age 62

Talk about war. The policy on education. Gas prices. Female, age 45

The smallest portion of us also know that your job as president is only a smokescreen; a lot of the bills and clauses are in the states. Democracy back to all people. Male, age 24

What the plan was for the war in Iraq, and what is he doing there. Female, age 52

Keep referring to God and the Bible. Male, age 40

Retirement. Health. Education. Male, age 62

The cost of living. It is too hard to buy a house. Female, age 25

Stick with the job he is doing in Iraq. Female, age 31

Concern of everybody about the lingering war. Male, age 60

He and his big wigs in Washington should fight the war and let our boys come home. Female, age 77

Keep doping a great job and don't listen to critics; go with your instincts. Male, age 19

Something about the ongoing war, of course, and how to better deal with it. I'm not sure, because I haven't given it much thought. Male, age 18

I would give him praise and tell him he's doing a really good job. Female, age 23

Oil. Male, age 57

Kick (swear word), take names later. Male, age 43

Environmental policy. Male, age 36

Stop being a bully. Female, age 51

Pull troops out of Iraq. Abolish the death penalty. Do not privatize Social Security. Female, age 28

Address education a little better. Female, age 51

You have got to worry about the borders that we have. Our borders are not secure -- people come in. Since we are the majority in the Senate and in the House, I want to know why they are not doing anything about the judges. Social Security -- I think it is a good idea to privatize part of it and slowly do away with it. Male, age 59

Take it easy on the whole war situation. Male, age 18

I'd ask him questions about why we did some of the things we've done, specifically Iraq and other foreign issues. I doubt he'd tell me his real reasons. Male, age 22

Spending too much money on military programs. The religious conservatives don't necessarily reflect the majority of public opinion. Female, age 51

I would talk to him about Social Security and the war in Iraq. Male, age 53

I'm concerned about the retirement and Social Security health services. Male, age 62

Three major problems: immigration, I don't like the Social Security plan, and terrorism. And I think he's doing a good job there; I don't like the approach and high cost of medicine, and I'm a physician. Male, age 80

Ask lots of questions about the war. Female, age 46

He's getting whipped on the oil industry. Male, age 51

I think that he's a lost cause. Male, age 70

Economy. Male, age 34

He needs to help people in the US before helping people overseas. And he needs to get more and better jobs in the US instead of overseas. Male, age 67

Concerned with rising gas prices. The transportation infrastructure is not up to the rising economy. Male, age 47

Cut the deficit. Male, age 43

Start concentrating on the economy here instead of sending money to places abroad. Our health insurance premiums are outrageous. Female, age 69

His nominees are controversial; why is he doing that? Female, age 51

The direction on Social Security is wrong. The Iraq situation needs to be more carefully defined regarding when we will bring the troops back.Female, age 60

Solve Social Security and solve energy. Male, age 62

He's doing a terrible job on everything. Female, age 25

He needs to work on his public speaking skills; get rid of that weasely laugh. Ask him where he's getting his ideas on homeland security. Male, age 21

The taxes are destroying businesses and we are increasing the deficit; We are going to have to dig ourselves out of it. You are shocked as he is a graduate of business school and yet he shows so little understanding of economic realities. If you follow the money. Female, age 53

They ought to do something with Social Security. Do not take some; what they have left they go in and take the money that is left, or the government goes in and takes it and pays other bills with it. I think the senators should be under Social Security also. Female, age 72

Healthcare. Male, age 38

We are not accomplishing anything in Iraq. They don't know how to deal with peace. We're doing this all on our own. Female, age 70

We don't belong in Iraq. We have companies in the US that produce methanol and we have the IRL racing league that burns that fuel in their cars. Why can't we convert all of our cars being produced to that fuel? Methanol is an extremely clean fuel used in Indianapolis and places like that. Male, age 56

I don't like that he went into war. I don't like that people in the United States are starving. Female, age 59

George Bush, you are doing a good job and keep up the good work. I would thank him and ask him to push forward more pro-life issues. Get judges that will reverse Roe v. Wade. I approve of what he thinks we should do with Social Security. Female, age 45

Stand up to the democrats and tell them to go straight to (swear word). Male, age 50

Lower taxes. Get the guys out of Iraq. Female, age 23

I would ask him to discuss the economy. Female, age 31

About jobs, the war, and Social Security. Female, age 36

He does not support education as he should. The No Child Left Behind Act is inadequate. Female, age 28

About the war and ask him if all Americans were misguided. Health insurance. Social Security.Male, age 43

Go jump in the lake. Male, age 65

Religion has no place in government; pay attention to separation of church and state! Cooperate better with European countries. Male, age 59

I think he's made wrong decisions. I don't know how he'll get us out of Iraq. The problems down the road with the economy. Female, age 75

Bring the troops back home. More medical help. Female, age 28

Healthcare. Female, age 37

About Social Security. Male, age 55

Stop trying to do the job your father could not do; get out of Iraq. Female, age 30

I would tell him to keep up the good work and I appreciate the way the country is being protected. Also, I appreciate having a president who has God in his life. Female, age 33

Stop spending so much money. Peace in Iraq. Female, age 79

Admit he made mistakes throughout his presidency. Male, age 33

Overall, he's doing a pretty good job and he needs to just stay consistent. He doesn't need to bend to the political and media whims.Male, age 49

I'm happy with what he's doing. Male, age 27

Healthcare. Female, age 79

Cut taxes and get the budget in order; cut spending. Male, age 52

Close the borders. Male, age 51

Healthcare. Male, age 41

I would rather not do that. Female, age 74

I'm very much against the war in Iraq. Female, age 85

Get out of Iraq, abandon his plans on Social Security, and lighten up on his preaching his religion to us. Male, age 56

Oil prices. Healthcare. Male, age 48

Stop sending money we don't have. Female, age 78

He needs to stop legislating morality. I don't like the way he is handling education; the No Child Left Behind Act only gets teachers to help students pass a test, not learn.Female, age 35

Nothing different from what he's doing now; I think he's doing a good job. Female, age 82

Get our boys overseas back home. Male, age 52

Focus on the economy and get out of Iraq. Female, age 37

I guess probably that more attention should be paid to the economy instead of foreign matters. Female, age 37

I don't really have anything in particular that I would like to discuss. Female, age 79

Continue to focus on Social Security. A new United Nations advisor. The tax structure -- cut down on the amount of taxes, eliminate taxes on small businesses and estate taxes, and the filing for every American family is way too complicated; go back to the idea of a flat tax. Female, age 55

Get out of Iraq. Male, age 44

To continue to stick by his morals and continue to be the president that he has been. Female, age 30

Start drilling for oil. Male, age 46

Bring the troops home. Male, age 69

He made a few mistakes, especially the war in Iraq. Putting the country in the red for years to come. Male, age 72

Give up on Social Security, stop it, and come up with a new one. Female, age 33

The deficits are sowing the seeds of the destruction of the economy. His appointment of extreme right wing judges is bad for the country. His foreign policy needs to be completely overhauled, and the way he's going about Social Security reform is also wrong and unnecessary. Male, age 72

I am opposed to the war in Iraq; we are losing innocent lives like in Vietnam. I don't agree with his ideas for Social Security; I am 53 and have been paying in too long. I don't believe that he should go into the natural reserves in Alaska. I think there should be a better way. Female, age 53

I would tell him to be careful not to lose the liberties in this country, especially our Christian heritage. Female, age 79

Social Security and the war in Iraq. Male, age 77

Healthcare for the elderly. Education for children. Future retirement plans and his international decisions. Female, age 39

Balance the budget. Get out of Iraq. Male, age 53

Social Security is the most prevalent issue aside from the war. In regards to Social Security, how unstable the markets are now shows that people would have less control, not more, of their money. Female, age 24

I would tell him I was very pleased with the way he is running the country and the decisions he is making. Female, age 64

Stop being so stupid and help our own people, not people overseas; we can't afford to do anything else. Find people who are breaking into houses, raping, and murdering people, instead of drug users. They're doing a crime, but more rapists and criminals get away with stuff than the drug dealers do. Female, age 21

Be fair and do it with integrity. Male, age 71

Start a draft and help support the troops. Male, age 44

Stop fighting his daddy's battles. Being too generous with money we don't have. Male, age 34

I'd like to see this war end. Female, age 54

Take a dollar bill and hold it in your hand, and ask someone what would you call this? It's a buck! This is a bucky world, from the ground up -- everything is based on money. Female, age 92

Help us old folks out. Male, age 75

To end the war and bring the troops back home. Also, I would tell him to keep the money he is spending there in the United States; there are people here that need it as much as those in Iraq. My husband goes to the VA to get help with his medication. Female, age 55

Balance in economic policy. Bring peace to war.  Male, age 53

Leave Social Security alone. Male, age 62

Social Security, health and welfare, and gas prices. Male, age 34

Use the little bomb and take the rest of them out. Female, age 84

I like the way he handled the war. We had no choice. They can't come here and bomb the World Trade Center. He is strong enough to stand behind our country and not allow terrorism. Female, age 42

I think your Social Security plan is a joke. Female, age 65

The position of women in this country and a person's right to privacy. The world situation and what's happening; we have more uninsured American now than ever. The fact that our judiciary committees are going so far to the right. It scares me -- does he really want to be commissioner of Major League Baseball? Female, age 39

The war in Iraq. Social Security. The needs here at home.  Female, age 40

Social Security; it needs to be fixed so it doesn't go into bankruptcy. Female, age 49

Health insurance needs to be overhauled. Female, age 69

Environmental issues; cleaning up the air. Controls on power plants.  Male, age 53

He should be more open-minded about the issue of moral values; other things have higher priority. Female, age 25

Stop the illegal immigration. Female, age 49

I would say that he would look more into women's rights; amendments need to be passed in three more states. I wanted to say that the Social Security funds or money should be easily accessible to the senior citizens. Female, age 62

Take care of people here in our country. Female, age 86

He needs to find a way out of Iraq. Male, age 29

Secure our borders. Male, age 46

I'd tell him several things about the war and Social Security, and I would ask for some information about those things. I'd probably tell him he could take all the money that's gone into Social Security over the year, and just take care of it instead of putting it into something else. Don't be borrowing from Social Security, and if it needs more money give it more money. The Internal Revenue Service needs to be looking at big companies instead of individual people. They need to take care of fraud -- it's making it so difficult on people who have to pay taxes. Female, age 62

The issues with health insurance in the country right now, and the number of people -- middle class workforce -- that are either underinsured or uninsured, compared to the number of people that are on welfare and don't have to worry about healthcare. Male, age 30

How he's handling Iraq. His tax breaks. His very poor handling of the oil situation.Male, age 67

Medicare or something to do with retirement and Social Security. Male, age 81

About Social Security. Male, age 34

Education. Social Security. The war. Female, age 52

Stop being so deceitful. I have a brother who is a Vietnam vet. I have a son who dropped out of college and he went into the service. I am not selfish; I know that our children need to defend our country. I would even pick up a gun to defend our country. Female, age 53

I'm not thrilled with the health insurance; I think it's geared for the big companies and the little ones got (swear word). The oil prices are so sky high. Female, age 44

The borders. Male, age 56

Making a disaster of the war. People are going uninsured; the number of people who do not have medical insurance. Female, age 46

More common sense and less politics. Male, age 49

Budget deficits. Male, age 57

The war. Female, age 18

High-income folks do not need a tax break; the money needs to go to education and childcare. Female, age 52

Healthcare: the prices are too high, and it is too difficult for seniors to afford medication. Male, age 39

I couldn't talk to him. I wouldn't let him on my property. Male, age 83

Don't drill for oil in the Arctic. Male, age 62

If he was a man he would resign and apologize to the American people for lying and going to war in Iraq, which is costing us American lives. Male, age 90

Why is he keeping the war going? Female, age 72

The war! Bring those kids home! Female, age 75

Tell him about the children in Iraq and the gas prices. Female, age 54

Something about the gas prices. Male, age 55

He and his congressmen need to live on what I make, and then decide what minimum wage should be. Female, 48

To get rid of the marriage and civil unions of gays and lesbians. Female, age 49

I'd like for him to bring my husband home from Iraq. Female, age 38

Social Security. Female, age 52

Leave Social Security alone. Female, age 48

I would talk to him about the elderly and how hard it is to live on such a small income. Female, age 69

He is mishandling Social Security to the worst degree. Female, age 38

Medicare. Female, age 75

Pull our troops out and bomb the (swear words). Female, age 33
