Personal Financial Situation Index


 
Friends and family, as well as financial advisers, are the sources of financial information Americans turn to most, with financial websites a close third.
 
Just 26% of Americans think it is a good time to buy a house, and a new low of 30% of non-homeowners think they will buy a home in the next five years.
 
Twelve percent of Americans report borrowing an estimated $74 billion to pay for healthcare expenses last year. More than one-quarter (28%) report being "very concerned" that a major health event could put them in medical debt in the future.
 
About six in 10 Americans overall report having a retirement savings plan, but the rate differs sharply by income, education and other factors.
