The Metrics That Matter

Looking for public opinion metrics that matter for the 2020 presidential election? Drawing on its more than 80-year history, Gallup has identified key indicators to put the 2020 election in historical context.

These indicators include presidential job approval, Americans' satisfaction with the direction of the country, Gallup's U.S. Economic Confidence Index, mentions of economic issues as the most important problem facing the country, party identification and the amount of thought Americans are giving to the election. Gallup will be updating these indicators on a regular basis as new data become available, along with historical comparisons.

Gallup's latest readings on three key aspects of the nation's mood. Presidential job approval may be asked more than once a month; in those cases, the monthly average is displayed.
