2009 Year in Review

by Lymari Morales

I absolutely love the year-in-review time of year. It really shows you both how long and short a calendar year can be.

I've been working on our Gallup.com Year in Review, which will review the collective ride we have been on since January. Our stories from January until now showcase the optimism with which Barack Obama took office and the challenges and opportunities he has faced since then. It will document how consumers' views on the economy have ebbed, flowed, and adjusted based on cautious optimism and government intervention. It will detail the most noteworthy shifts in U.S. and global attitudes and behaviors. And it will provide clues about what to expect in 2010. Look for this story on our site on Dec. 31.

Other year-in-review-type stories we have in the works for the week between Christmas and New Year's: we'll reveal Americans' most admired men and women, the year's political winners and losers, and Americans' happiest and most stressful days of 2009.

In 2010, our daily and global tracking continues and our 2010 election tracking goes monthly. In the meantime, this blog will go dark from now until the first week of January. Our site will stay live, with new stories and plenty for you to review as you think about the road traveled in 2009 and the road ahead in 2010.

Thanks to the more than 1 million of you who have visited our site in 2009. We look forward to your return in 2010.
